By MCN Staff

Electronic technology is impacting healthcare at a rapid pace. It is impacting cost- cutting measures, improving quality and presenting options that could potentially revolutionize the entire healthcare industry. What does this mean for healthcare professionals and medical engineers? It means opportunity. The list below represents a few current opportunities to become a part of this trend.

Engineers:

Biomedical
Software
Electrical
Electromechanical
Mechanical
Chemical

The following companies are looking for these skills: Abbott Laboratories, Acuson, ATL Ultrasound, Boston Scientific, GE Medical Systems, LifeScan, Siemans Ultrasound, Medtronic, and St. Jude Medical.

You may ask where is the healthcare professional in this scheme of things? The healthcare professional is the link, the bridge, and a conduit for end-user centered design for use in the real world. Surgeons are needed to help design and develop surgery robots. Technicians, nurses and doctors are needed to help design and develop imaging, diagnostic and analytical instruments. Some healthcare professionals may want to broaden their horizons through entrepreneurship or by becoming a venture capitalist. Whatever route is chosen, it is filled with opportunities.
