Quick Tips for Submitting e-Resumes
By MCN Staff
- Keep the three Fs simple (format, font, focus). Use a simple format by avoiding the use of graphics, underscoring and underlining. These can lead to blurring and bleeding of text when electronically scanned. Select a simple font by choosing Times New
Roman or a similar style and limit size between 10 and 14. Focus on the skills, knowledge and abilities required to qualify for the position.
- ACE (achievements, contributions, experience) the content of your resume by emphasizing your professional achievements and accomplishments, contributions to bottom lines and collaborations with others, and experience and education.
- Brand yourself by using nouns as opposed to verbs. For example, if you have managerial skills, use manager instead of managed when describing your experience.
- Use buzzwords specific to the industry you are interested in. Electronic screening processes may screen you in or out based solely on these words.
- Attach a statement as a separate file if your resume is a confidential submission, if you only want to be considered for a specific position, or if you do not want your resume included in a resume database.
