Sliced PIE Yields Ideal Job
By MCN Staff
Has it ever occurred to you that slicing PIE could lead to your
ideal job? It can happen in today's job market environment where skilled
employees have a definite advantage if you begin your PIE with some
essential ingredients. Start your PIE by thinking about what brings you
pleasure (P), how you like to give and receive information (I), and
employment or employers (E) that appeal to your sensibilities. Combine
these in your PIE plate then use the questions below to get a glimpse of
how to slice your way to your ideal job.
- What type of things do I like to work with? Do I like computers,
machinery, etc.? (P/I)
- What type of physical setting or environment do I like to work in? Do
I like busy and noisy, serene and quiet, outdoors or indoors, Spartan or
opulent? (P/E)
- How do I like to give/receive information? Do I like details or just
the big picture, face-to-face or reports, group settings or one-on-one?
(I)
- How do I like to be rewarded for my efforts? Do I like money, time
off, special privileges, or titles? (P/E)
- In what type of corporate culture do I perform best? Do I like
structured and formal or flexible and informal, large, medium or small?
(E)
- Do I like to work independently or in groups? (I/E)
- Which of my skills do I like to use most and how do I like to use
them? For example, ask yourself questions similar to this, "Do I like
skiing or do I prefer to teach others how to ski? (P/E)
As you answer these questions assign them a level of importance on a
scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being most important. Examine the slice of PIE
containing the most weight and you may discover that you have sliced up a
view of your ideal job!
