New Job Evaluation Tool
By MCN Staff
Job changes are a common occurrence in today's workplace environment.
However, it is best to establish an acceptable job environment profile
before you are actively engaged in the process of job-hunting. Defining
your ideal job environment profile can help you avoid the unpleasantness
of accepting a job that fills you with dread and hinders your quality of
life. The following list may be used as a tool to assist you in
establishing your personal job environment profile.
Evaluation List
- Corporate Culture -Do company policies and procedures reflect
ethical standards? Is management as well as employees held accountable to
these standards in an atmosphere of mutual respect?
- Work Hours -Are hours flexible? How long is the perceived versus
the actual workday?
- Work Time Management -How much autonomy? Is your time boss-driven
and one-dimensional?
- Departmental Differences -Talk with current employees to determine
if one manager or department has a reputation for being the best to work
for.
- Morale Boosters - Are food, fitness center, or childcare
available? Are there activities to promote employee connectedness to the
company?
- Growth Potential -Is the company growing and can you see yourself
growing and advancing with the company/
- Pay -Is the compensation competitive and equitable?
- Diversity -Is the company workforce multicultural and/or
multiethnic?
- Work Space -Will you work in a cubicle, at a floating docking
station, or in an office with walls, windows and a door?
- Commute Time -Will you spend more time commuting than you feel
comfortable with?
This list is only a starting point for developing your personal evaluation
tool. Creating your ideal job environment profile before you need it is a
smart strategic move.
