Step One...Land the Job

As you go on your way seeking the perfect job, have you considered what an employer is looking for in a candidate? What are the qualities that make someone hire you instead of the other equally qualified applicant. The major qualifications are the same from one business to the next. Review the six qualities listed below while examining yourself.

Character

This is the combination of ethics, morals and personal standards that single you out from all others. Character can not be purchased at you local bookstore, but has been in the process of development all your life.

Goals

What do you want to do? What business do you want to be in? Where do you see yourself in five years? In essence, have you set a path you would like for your professional career to take?

Energy

Maintaining a high energy-level is of the utmost importance. If you perform your daily tasks with obvious ease and enthusiasm, you will most likely be considered for more challenging endeavors. Endeavors which could lead to a raise or promotion.

Commitment

Commitment is that fire that burns within when you must see a job completed. That fire burns whether you are in the spotlight or not. You must assume the responsibility to have a completed job. It must be well done.

Unique talents

The very essence of any organization is the people which make up that organization. It is these individuals that bring to the table each a unique talent, a niche that they are capable of submitting to the pool of ordinary talents. These unique talents give an organization/company a competitive edge. When you posses such a talent you will be desired.

Personality

Many a job has been lost due to the inability to get along with co-workers. The question so often asked is: "Why do I need to make friends with these people?" The answer my friend is simple- No matter what position you maintain, no matter what you intellectual level, if you lack personality you lack the ability to influence people.
