How to Succeed in a New Job
Change is a fact of life these days, so here are a few tips on
how to EXCEL in that job, whether it be in your present company,
or in a new one.
- Be willing to do more than your share. Please do not
ever say, "This is not in my job description."
- Please your boss. Find out what your manger, and higher-ups
expect of you so can meet those needs right out of starting gate.
Remember to meet with your manager, to clarify and outline your
job.
- Adapt quickly to your new work situation. Fitting
in is crucial to your success. Be sure to learn your company's
culture, and management style.
- Be friendly. Get to know people. A friendly personality
will help you tap into the company "Grapevine."
- Communicate effectively with subordinates. Listen
to your subordinates. It is important that you communicate well
up and down the organizational chart.
- Give clear directions. Look and act as if you are
in control when giving directions, remember to be a good coach.
- Praise others for their accomplishments. Everyone
wants to be appreciated and recognized, so always praise in public,
and scold in private.
- Keep managers informed of your progress. Communicate
with your manager about what you are doing.
- Be assertive and self-confident. Remember you are
good and proud of it, so stand tall, and look sharp.
- Stay organized and goal oriented. Take one step at
a time. Stay on top of your responsibilities and track your progress.
- Always have your OWN agenda. Make sure
you are in the job for your own career.
