We have matured in a society that places a lot on a job title that implies status. Because of this conditioning, our career choices are often clouded by a fancy title. As minorities, we place great emphasis on managing someone. We have been forced for many years to believe that if you manage you are a success and that success by tile identification implies money. I suggest that you focus your attention on managing your career instead of impressing your friends. The only thing management and money have in common is that they both begin with the letter "M."

So when the time comes to reposition yourself within the organization, use the following guidelines to make an intelligent career choice:

• Access your accomplishments and success patterns so you can develop a career goal.
• Research the market to determine the best niche for your skills.
• Know how much money your skills are worth.
• Have a plan for growth.
• Evaluate your growth plan to make sure you are on track.
• Learn to see a job for what it is not what the title implies.
• Do not position yourself in a dead end job.
• Remember Management does not equal Money.
