Companies today are looking for employees that can jump into a new position running. They desire someone who can make a positive difference. Even higher on the list is an employee that can quickly affect the bottom-line figure. Long gone are the days, when a person is hired to do one job. Today, you must be flexible enough to engage in different positions as the need arises. Other assets that corporations want are:
Team players - The corporation is a team therefore, all employees are team members. If you are unable to work in a team oriented environment you came be labeled a problem employee. Do not worry there will be times when you will be in the spotlight alone. Make sure when it's your time to be in the spotlight, you have taken the appropriate steps to insure it is a brightly shining positive light.
Enthusiasm - You must possess not only enthusiasm but contagious enthusiasm. You must be approachable and people should enjoy being in your company. Attempt to make others enthusiastic about their jobs and working with you.
Reliability - People can depend on you to get the job done correctly. You do not set unrealistic deadlines and you keep all necessary parties informed of your status.
Initiative - This is where the spotlight can really shine. You are able to evaluate problem situations and produces results. The best part of this is that you are able to do it without direct supervision.
Ability to communicate - I am sure you have heard this many times before but one more time will not hurt...Communication is the Key. You must be able to communicate to individuals in all positions within the company. If you have a fear of speaking before an audience, take a speech class. If written communication reminds you of bad experiences in seventh grade English...maybe you should take a refresher course.
Keep personal business personal - You must keep your private matters away from the workplace. If stressful times have you down, find personal friends to air your feelings not co-workers.
