This month we will continue to tour the American Online (AOL) Career Center. Last month we described the Talent Bank, Resume Templates and Cover Letter Library of the AOL Career Center.
American Online Career Center
You will find the Career Center in the Learning & Reference departments of AOL. You can also use the keyword "career" for immediate access. Once into the Career Center you will have several menu options. For this tour the menu options are: Self-Employment Service, Federal employment Service, Career Resource Library, Employment Agency and Employer Contacts Database.
Self Employment Service
For those of us interested in having our own business, this section will assist you in setting the self-employment direction you wish to take. It provides information that will guide you in starting and operating a successful business. The focus of this section is startup businesses that require the use of a personal computer. You will also find profiles of people who are operating successful home-based computer businesses. Turnkey businesses such as Professional Billing Service and Career Consulting Service are available for sale from the Career Center.
Federal Employment Service
This section contains a collection of information about federal employment opportunities compiled by the New England Center for Career Development. You will find information on how to seek and secure employment with the federal government. Detailed information is available about many of the most common and important federal departments and agencies.
Career Resource Library
Career Resource Library contains resource materials not readily available. Items listed in this section come in varies formats such as audiocassettes, CD-ROMS, films, and videotapes.
Employment Agency Database
This section contains a listing of professional executive search firms, recruitment agencies, headhunters and placement agencies that could be useful in assisting you in finding a job.
Employer Contacts Database
This database contains a listing of informative profiles on American employers. You can use this database to search for employers that have employment needs that match your skills and experience.
