Publisher's Notes: Scoring a Touchdown

Finally, we reach September and football season. This time of year for me brings a new resolve to follow my game plans and score touchdowns in the Career Game. Are you following your Career Game plans?

Remember to stay focused, do not let Affirmative Action, Newt, or downsizing keep you from arming yourself for the 100 yard TD run, so remember the basics:

1. The Best Offense is Defense: Be prepared for positions in your field, by being well trained, and highly regarded as a team player. Be sought out as an expert within your company.

2. Have Multiple Attack Offense: Develop your skill set along a broad front. Do not let your career have a narrow focus within your field.

3. Be Aggressive: Attack on Offense and Defense. Continue to develop your skills, always network and look for other areas to develop as strengths.

4. Play Offense To Score points: Never work just to have a job. Always have higher goals in mind.

5. Consistently Evaluate Your Field position: It might be time to throw the long bomb and change careers or your might need to run the ball up the middle for a safe play.

6. Always Know Your Opponent: Scout your opponent. Do research on the company where you are seeking a job.

7. Never Go Into the Game Half-hearted: Always be up-beat even when you are down. Always maintain a positive demeanor.

8. Always Come Dressed to Play: Appearance is important, come dressed to play because one never knows when you might meet a key decision maker.

9. Football is a Game of Blocking and Tackling: Remember to execute the career basics of high quality performance, good interpersonal relations, and team involvement.

10. Never Quit: Do Not give up. The career game has no time limit.
