Use the following four tips to impress your interviewer and land the job you wish.
1. Stay within time constraints.
Call ahead to find out how much time will be allotted for the interview. If you are unable to gather this information prior to the interview ask the interviewee at the beginning of the meeting. Once you know how long the meeting will last, tailor your responses to meet that time constraint. Remember you must be able to sell yourself in a complete but brief manner.
2. Answer questions thoroughly.
It is your responsibility to make sure the interviewer is able to see the connection between your abilities and experiences and the skills required for the job. Provide concise answers to all questions asked and make sure you relate each one to a specific skill that you have or task that you have accomplished.
3. Be prepared.
Prior to the interview, familiarize yourself with your skills and how they will meet the company's needs. Research and analyze the company's requirements and any likely concerns the interviewer might have that relates to your current skill set. Be prepared to address these concerns positively.
4. Ask pertinent questions.
Prepare questions prior to the interview that will help you gather information about the job and the company. Refrain from asking questions until the end of the interview unless the interviewer prompts you for them earlier. Make sure the questions are appropriate. Do not inquire about salary until an offer has been extended.
